La Scuola Italiana a Londra aims to prepare children for a world that not only places a high value on educational achievement, but also on artistic flair, social awareness, independence and diversity. Children are given the opportunity to test and develop their talents across a broadly based and academically stimulating curriculum that promotes intellectual, artistic, aesthetic, physical and social development.
Our Primary School curriculum (Key Stage 1 and 2) is based upon the statutory requirements of the Italian Ministry of Education and the latest English National Curriculum; carefully integrating each set of requirements so that the two national curricula best complement each other.
The School therefore follows a completely bilingual and bicultural curriculum in the truest sense. Here the broader, over-arching objectives of the Italian National Curriculum are seasoned with and diversified by the more prescriptive and increasingly ambitious requirements of the new English National Curriculum. This approach enables us to offer the best of both systems in terms of content, teaching methods and skills acquired by the children.
Each year group has two mother-tongue Class Teachers, one Italian and one English, and two Teaching Assistants, one Italian and one English. This combination, resulting in a very high teacher:pupil ratio, is essential to facilitating accelerated progression through the curriculum via a judicious mix of supported learning opportunities, especially through one-to-one or small group work.
Those children who join the school later are provided with all the necessary support to enable them to reach the same level as their peers within a couple of terms at the school.
