Our EY curriculum is based on the norms given by the Italian Ministry of Education integrated and complemented by the EYFS Statutory Framework.
The curriculum builds upon a balance between activities led by the teachers and by the interest of the children who are encouraged to determine the course of teaching and its form.
The teachers work on specific projects approached as in-depth studies of concepts, ideas and interests. Beside the projects which form the Formation Curriculum (The Body, Colours, Shapes, Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy, Introduction to Writing and Reading, Road Safety and so on) every year the school develops specific projects which arise within the class groups, such as: Cooking, Gardening, Recycling and Creativity, The Library, The Universe, to quote some of the past years.
The teachers take the children through the various projects to specific objectives for skills, which are naturally part of their development but in a constructive and global way. These objectives are the basis on which the children are assessed and are grouped in 3 primary areas: Personal, Social and Emotional Development; Physical Development; Communication, Language and Literacy; and 4 specific areas: Literacy; Mathematics; Understanding of the World; Expressive Arts and Design.
The Italian programme and curriculum are largely delineated in the Italian P.O.F. (Piano dell’Offerta Formativa) and Annual Plan, while the English planning and curriculum follow the EYFS Statutory Framework, as from our EYFS Policy. To read more click the links below:
