Gala Dinner in support of La Scuola Italiana a Londra: over £1 million raised
Last night the Italian Ambassador Pasquale Terracciano hosted the traditional Gala Dinner in support of La Scuola Italiana a Londra (SIAL), the only institution that offers Italian primary education in the British Capital. To the total of the funds raised through individual contributions and auction bids an addition of £1 million was offered by a British based charity. This phenomenal amount was secured by the Ambassador himself through marketing work done in the period preceding the Gala evening.
At the beginning of the evening, the Ambassador gave Francesca Invernizzi Nelson-Smith, driving force of the school project, the honour of Cavaliere dell’ordine della Stella d’Italia, awarded for special merits in the promotion of the italian education and culture in the UK.
This year’s edition of the gala evening at the embassy was also used by the school to announce a number of important developments for the school, which was opened in 2010 by a private initiative but is recognised both by the Italian and the British authorities and which has grown exponentially and has obtained gratifying results since. It was first announced that for 2016/2017 the school has managed to secure the use of the building next door to its current premises on Holland Park Avenue, which will allow for a significant expansion of its current offer; also, guests were reminded that the school offers a fully bilingual and bi-curricular education for nursery and reception and for the primary cycle and that the school was visited by OFSTED in December 2015 and received a very good report with some excellent features in its continuous development.
The last important announcement was that in 2017 the school will open its next school cycle, the “scuola media” (Italian Y6 to 8).
